Late summer or early fall you can find these mushrooms on dead red oaks called sulfur shelfs or chicken mushrooms. Young they are soft and juicy. As they age they get woody from the inside to the edge. Check for woodenness and cut off what is edible. Par boiling will stop the aging process.
